Materials and construction
Each quilt is designed using fabrics only from manufacturers in the USA that are recognized
for the high quality of their designs and fabrics. This provides a visual and tactile richness
to the children's quilts that is absent in “imported” quilts and those made with craft-shop
fabrics. The suppleness of the quilt is further enhanced by the batting we use.
All our quilts are hand sewn with careful attention to detail. Our intention is to ensure that
seams and quilting stitches will withstand normal wear for years to come. We want our
quilts to be used and loved—every day, not just on special occasions.
The design process
The stories begin to take shape when the theme for the quilt is chosen. The prints in the
fabrics that are selected for the quilt provide many of the details for the story. It may take
two or three iterations to ensure that the story and the specific fabrics work well together,
providing both a visually pleasing quilt and an engaging children's story.
Each Storybook Quilt is a limited edition. As quilt fabrics are “retired” by their
manufacturers and new ones become available, some of the quilt squares must change.
Relevant details in the story also may change. The overall color and look of the quilt does
not change, however, and the story line varies little.
Specifications
Our quilts are approximately 40 inches by 50 inches (102 cm by 127 cm), more than big
enough for a cuddle or a nap. Larger sizes can be ordered. The stories are approximately
8-10 pages of text and illustrations and are printed in a font that research has shown to
be easily readable by all age groups.
Guarantee
We stand by our Storybook Quilts. Should damage occur to the quilt or story because of
defective materials or workmanship, we will repair or replace it. For quilts that show signs
of age or extreme use, we offer a repair service. We also can arrange to replace the
printed story should it be the victim of some awful fate—an attack by a puppy, for example!
